This past weekend I brought my daughter to see the Jonas Brothers in concert. For those of you without tween-age kids, the Jonas Brothers are the boy version of Hannah Montana.
When tickets went on sale about a month ago, I told my daughter I'd try to get tickets. So I went through the motions on ticketmaster, and to my surprise tickets were still available. $150 (plus taxes and service charges later) I had three tickets to the gig.
At first I was going to bring my middle son. (That's initially why I bought 3 tix.) However, he said there was NO WAY that he would go. This began the saga of determining which friend to bring. The first friend my daughter asked was one that I DO NOT KNOW. Meaning, I DO NOT KNOW THE PARENTS. Normally, this would be fine, but we were staying overnight at a hotel near the stadium. The parents "interviewed" me on the phone and then wanted to meet to see if I was worthy of taking their child. Finally, we both decided that maybe this wouldn't work. Phew! Next, we asked one of her good friends from school whose mom I do know. She initially said yes, but then had to withdraw because of a sports commitment. Next, she asked a friend that we carpool with. But this little girl was aprehensive about sleeping away from home (BTW, she's in 4th grade. Hmmm. Last, she asked the friend she should've asked in the first place. I know the mom, they swim together and are in the same class. Luckily, she's also an easygoing kid.
I picked the kids up early from school. I saw the principal in the office and it went like this:
Principal: So do the girls have a swim meet?
Me: Uh, no, we're going out of town for something else.
Secretary: Oh, what's going on? (Please try to mind your own biz, chick)
Me: Uh, I'm a taking them to a concert.
Secretary: Oh, which one.
Me: (looking down feeling like I'm in trouble) Jonas Brother
Secretary and Principal looking at each other: Have fun
Yowsa!
After stops for food and gas, we finally got to our hotel at about 5:00. We headed to the concert at 6:00. This was both girls' first concert, so both were super hyped up about going. They wore funky concert outfits, put glitter in their hair and even wore some eye shadow. It was really fun to see them getting ready.
The concert was really, really fun and REALLY, REALLY LOUD! The Jonas Brothers are sweet, cute kids, so I can see why the girls are crazy about them. Plus, their music is pretty good, too.
The concert ended around 9:30 (the girls started getting tired around 9:00) and we headed back to the hotel. I was exhausted and went to sleep but allowed the girls to stay up as late as they wanted. Around 11:30 I woke up to turn off the TV -- they were both out cold.
Much to my dismay, the girls were up around 7:00. What ever happened to sleeping in, ladies?! We packed up, went to the hotel restaurant for a really bad breakfast buffet, then piled in the car and headed home. We got home around 1:30 and I had to pay the babysitter (hubby was at MBA class).
We pretty much vegged the rest of the day until my husband got home. Then we recounted the entire night in detail.
It really was fun. I wonder which band will be the "it" band next?
